Necrobiosis

The death of cells surrounded by living tissue.

The gradual localised death of a part or tissue.

A gradual process by which cells lose their function and die. Necrobiosis lipoidica is patchy degeneration of the skin causing areas of white scarring and thinning. It is most commonly seen in diabetics but is found occasionally in nondiabetics.

Gradual degeneration and swelling of collagen bundles in the dermis.

Necrobiosis refers to the natural, physiological death of individual cells or groups of cells. This phenomenon is observed in cells like those in the epidermis and blood, which are continually replaced as part of normal bodily processes. It differs from necrosis, which is cell death resulting from disease, and from somatic death, which signifies the demise of the entire organism.
