Androgen

Male sex hormone in vertebrates. Androgens may be used in patients with breast cancer to treat recurrence of the disease.

A hormone produced in the testes in the male, chiefly by the adrenal glands in the female, but also by the ovaries. It is an important source of sexual motivation.

A male sex hormone, testosterone or androsterone, which increases the male characteristics of the body.

General term for substances that produce secondary masculine characteristics (e.g., deep voice, facial hair); a male hormone (e.g., testosterone). Androgens are also chemical precursors to the female hormones (e.g., estrogen) and are present in females as well androgenous, androgenic.

Hormone promoting male secondary sex characteristics.

Male sex hormones. Testosterone is the principal male steroid hormone, produced in the testes in men and in small amounts in the ovaries and adrenal glands in women. Testosterone is responsible for the growth and development of male sex organs as well as for some physical characteristics in men, such as beard, body hair, and a lowered voice. Androgen hormone replacement is prescribed to replace testosterone in men who have low levels of it in their blood or who have lost testicular function. Women may receive testosterone to treat metastatic cancer (cancer that has spread from one area of the body to another).

One of a group of steroid hormones, including testosterone and a drosterone, that stimulate the development of male sex hormones and male secondary sexual characteristics (e.g. beard grow) deepening of the voice, and must development). The principal source these hormones is the testis (production being stimulated by luteinizing hormone but they are also secreted by the adrenal cortex and ovaries in small amounts, women excessive production of androgen gives rise to ‘masculinization.

A substance producing or stimulating the development of male characteristics  masculinization), such as the hormones testosterone and androsterone.

A male sex hormone (e.g. testosterone) synthesised both in the testes and by cells in the cortex of the adrenals on top of the kidneys. Primarily responsible for male body-hair distribution and muscle development. Androgens are produced in the female body (by the adrenals), albeit in smaller quantities. Testosterone, e.g., is thought to influence the libido in both sexes.

A type of hormone that promotes the development and maintenance of male sex characteristics; testosterone.

“Male” hormone, which, in women, is produced by the ovaries and the adrenal glands.

Male hormones that promote the development of male sexual characteristics. Testosterone is the mam androgen.

The adrenal glands and testes secrete male sex hormones, which are responsible for the development and functioning of male reproductive organs.

A compound that mimics the effects of the male sex hormone.

Androgens are hormones that not only stimulate sebaceous glands but also have various other impacts on the body. They are found in both males and females, although they are present at significantly higher levels in males, contributing to their physical maturation. As a result, males generally experience more severe acne compared to females.
