Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs)

Resultant products of a chain of chemical reactions after an initial glycation reaction. AGEs may play an important adverse role in process of atherosclerosis, diabetes, aging and chronic renal failure.


Proteins that have been nonenzymatically modified by the addition of sugar residues to lysine. These altered proteins increase with aging, and in patients with hyperglycemia and diabetes mellitus.
