Exteriorisation

A surgical operation to bring an internal organ to the outside surface of the body.


In surgery, the procedure to transfer an organ from its normal place in the body to the skin surface. It may be temporary or permanent. A common example is when the intestine is brought to the abdominal surface as a colostomy: this may be permanent because of serious disease in the lower part of the colon, or temporary to allow a disorder in the colon to be treated.
