Ecthyma

A skin disorder that is a serious form of impetigo which penetrates deep under the skin and leaves scars.

A skin disease, an ulcerative type of impetigo, in which the infection spreads down to the lower layer of the skin (dermis). Ecthyma heals more slowly than ordinary impetigo and causes scarring.

In debilitated or immunosuppressed subjects, staphylococcal impetigo or folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles may become ulcerated. This is called ecthyma and is seen in vagrants, drug addicts, and individuals with AIDS/HIV or uncontrolled diabetes mellitus.

A crusting skin infection caused by pyogenic streptococci. It is similar to impetigo but extends more fully into the epidermis. Typically lesions are found on the shins or the dorsum of the feet.

A type of skin condition typically appearing on the lower extremities, marked by large, surface-level pustules that evolve into ulcers coated with heavy scabs. This condition is likely triggered by the same bacteria responsible for impetigo and is also known as ulcerative impetigo.
