Treponema denticola

Long, thin, corkscrew‐like, gram‐negative, anaerobic spirochete that has been implicated as a possible etiologic agent of chronic periodontitis and periimplantitis. Characteristic motility and morphology of the organism may be discerned by dark‐field microscopy.


A species of anerobic, gram-negative spirochete that causes periodontal disease. Its presence in the oral cavity has been linked to an increased incidence of coronary artery disease.
