Brodie’s abscess

An abscess of a bone, caused by staphylococcal osteomyelitis [Described 1832. After Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie (1783-1862), British surgeon.]


Form of osteomyelitis, with chronic abscess at the head of a bone. Treatment is by antibiotics and excision and drainage of the abscesses.


An abscess of bone: a form of chronic bacterial osteomyelitis, not due to tuberculosis or syphilis. Treatment is by surgical drainage and antibiotics.


A persistent bone abscess that typically occurs in young adults with osteomyelitis, often found in the top part of the tibia.
