Postganglionic

Behind or below a ganglion, a mass of nerve tissue outside brain and spinal cord.

Nerve fibers arising distal to (after) a ganglion; com pare to preganglionic fibers that originate proximal to (before) a ganglion.

Describing a neuron in a nerve pathway that starts at a ganglion and ends at the muscle or gland that it supplies. In the sympathetic nervous system, postganglionic fibers are adrenergic, unlike those in the parasympathetic system, which are cholinergic.
