United states consumer product safety commission

Established as a result of the passage of the Consumer Product Safety Act of 1972. The Commission is concerned with reducing injuries associated with consumer products used in the home, schools, and recreational areas. Its authority was expanded by enactment of the Federal Hazardous Substance Act, Flammable Fabrics Act, Poison Prevention Packaging Act, and Refrigerator Safety Act. The jurisdiction does not include foods, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and other products that come under authority of other federal agencies.
