Unfreezing

The first phase of Lewin’s three-part process of change. Learning occurs when a person can make an informed choice of whether to change an existing behavior. The learning, or change, process that leads to an informed choice is based on previous attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors and creating receptivity to new knowledge that may provide the basis for the development of new ideas. Once has occurred, individuals are able to experiment with alternative attitudes and behaviors that they may then adopt.
