Substance abuse disorders

Disorders in which drugs such as alcohol and cocaine are abused to such an extent that behavior becomes pathologically impaired, social and occupational functioning are disrupted, and control of abstinence becomes impossible.

Substance use disorder is a condition characterized by an individual’s escalating need for a drug or alcohol, surpassing their intended consumption. It entails an inability to cease substance use by choice and persistent challenges in recovering from its effects.
