Polydactyly

A genetic defect characterized by an excessive number of fingers or toes.


Having more than the usual number of fingers or toes.


Congenital abnormality characterized by the presence of more than the normal number of fingers or toes; it is usually corrected by surgery; also called hyperdactyly.


A birth defect characterized by the presence of more than five fingers or toes on a hand or foot. Polydactyly can be an inherited trait.

A congenital anomaly where there’s an abnormal number of fingers or toes. These additional digits can be fully developed or might appear as fleshy protrusions. While polydactyly can be a hereditary trait in otherwise healthy families, it can also be a characteristic of syndromes such as Laurence–Biedl–Moon or other inherited disorders.
