Phrenicectomy

Resection of the phrenic nerve.

The surgical removal of all or part of the phrenic nerve.

Surgical division or removal of part of the phrenic nerve. Partial removal of the nerve produces the same results as phrenemphraxis and phrenicotomy (division of the phrenic nerve); it is done because the nerve sometimes regenerates after the other procedures.

A surgical procedure that removes part of the phrenic nerve. It was formerly used to paralyze the diaphragm and aid in collapsing a lung affected by tuberculosis. However, with the introduction of more potent tuberculosis drugs, this procedure is now infrequently done.
