Phentermine

An amphetamine-like appetite suppressant.


A drug for the treatment of obesity that is an appetite suppressant. It was the member of the “fen-phen” combination that was not found to be the problem and remains available for use.


An appetite suppressant drug. Phentermine (Adipex-P, Fastin, and others) is used in the short-term treatment of obesity to reduce appetite. The appetite-suppressing effect of phentermine lasts only a few weeks and so is used temporarily while the person learns new ways to eat healthy food and to exercise. Phentermine is related to amphetamines and is a controlled substance.


A sympathomimetic drug that suppresses the appetite and is used in the treatment of obesity. It is administered by mouth; side-effects include dry mouth, nausea, and restlessness, and continued use produces tolerance.


An amphetamine-like substance that enhances weight loss.. When used with fenfluramine hydrochloride, a similar drug, it has been implicated in the destruction of the pulmonary valve of a small percentage of patients.
