Intolerance

An allergy or sensitivity to a subject.


The adaptation of the body to a drug resulting in the need for a larger dosage to create the desired reaction.


The fact of being unable to endure something such as pain or to take a medicine without an adverse reaction.


A physical reaction that may produce symptoms but does not involve the immune system. Intolerance may be due to emotional or physical stresses that trigger adverse reactions. These reactions are usually to food or other ingested substances and occur primarily in the digestive system. The symptoms of intolerance may be confused with those of allergies. Various diagnostic tests can distinguish between the two.


The inability of a patient to tolerate a particular drug, manifested by various adverse reactions.


A lack of acceptance of another’s opinions, beliefs, or actions.
