Geiger counter

An instrument consisting of a Geiger-Muller tube and the electronic equipment used in conjunction with it to record the momentary current pulsations in the tube gas produced by the passage of radioactive particles.

An instrument for the detection and measurement of radiation [Described 1908. After Hans Geiger (1882-1945), German physicist who worked with Rutherford at Manchester University, UK.]

A radiation detection device that employs a Geiger counter tube to tally ionizing particles, including cosmic-ray particles. Each particle triggers ionization of the gas within the tube, and the total ionization per event remains constant regardless of the energy of the ionizing particle. It is also known as a Geiger-Mueller counter.
