A collection of data or information organized with some type of structure, such as records (rows) and fields (columns). A database record is group of items of information logically connected in some fashion. Records are often subdivided into smaller units of data known as data elements or “fields.” For example, a telephone book is a database (collection) of data records, each listing being one record. Each record in the telephone book might be further subdivided into three data elements or fields: name, address, and telephone number.
