A database record is group of items of information logically connected in some fashion. Records are often subdivided into smaller units of data known as data elements or “fields.” For example, a telephone book is a database (collection) of data records, each listing being one record. Each record in the telephone book might be further subdivided into three data elements or fields: name, address, and telephone number.

A collection of data that is organized so that its contents can easily be accessed, managed, and updated. Databases are used to manage and archive large amounts of information.
