Conjunctivitis neonatorum

An infection of the eye, specifically the conjunctiva, acquired by infants during birth from a birth canal infected with gonococcal, staphylococcal, streptococcal, or pneumococcal bacterial. Silver nitrate solution was used to prevent the infection from gonococcal bacterium but has been replaced by other medications, while antimicrobial drugs are used to prevent infection from the other microorganisms.
