Bronchoscope

An instrument used for visually examining the internal surfaces of the larger bronchi.

An instrument which is passed down the trachea into the lungs, which a doctor can use to inspect the inside passages of the lungs.

A small-diameter fiberoptic instrument used to visualize and biopsy the upper airway and lung tissue.

An instrument used to look into the trachea and bronchi. In addition to the rigid tubular metal type, used for many years, there is now a narrower flexible fiber-optic instrument with which previously inaccessible bronchi can be inspected. With either instrument the bronchial tree can be washed out, and samples of tissue and foreign bodies can be removed with long forceps.

An instrument constructed on the principle of the telescope, which on introduction into the mouth is passed down through the larynx and trachea and enables the observer to see the interior of the larger bronchial tubes. The bronchoscope has largely been superseded by fibreoptic bronchoscopy.

An endoscope designed to pass through the trachea for visual inspection of the tracheobronchial tree. The device can be used for lavage, or to remove tissue for biopsy or foreign bodies from the tracheobronchial tree.

An illuminated, pliable tube inserted into the trachea to visualize the bronchial passages or extract samples of fluid for diagnostic evaluation.

A device that is inserted into the primary airway to inspect the lungs and air passages.
