Leiomyoma

Tumor of smooth-muscle tissue.

A tumour of smooth muscle, especially the smooth muscle coating the uterus.

Benign tumor of smooth muscle, most often occurring in the uterus (leiomyofibroma) or digestive tract.

A noncancerous tumor of the smooth muscles that control the movements of the internal organs. Leiomyomas can occur in the bladder, breast, esophagus, and very commonly inside the uterus, as fibroid tumors. Cancerous tumors of the smooth muscle (leiomyosarcomas) are very rare, developing most often in the uterus, the rear area of the abdominal cavity, or the walls of the blood vessels.

A benign tumor of smooth muscle. Such tumors occur most commonly in the uterus (see fibroid) but can also arise in the digestive tract, walls of blood vessels, etc. They may undergo malignant change.

A benign tumour made up of unstriped, or involuntary, muscle fibres.

A benign growth made of smooth muscle tissue, leiomyomas (also known as fibroids) typically emerge in the uterus. Less commonly, they can form tender lumps in the skin by growing within the walls of blood vessels. Surgical intervention might be necessary to remove leiomyomas if they generate symptoms.
