A term applied to indifferent tissue set among the proper active tissue of an organ. It is generally of a supporting character and formed of fibrous tissue. The term is also applied to the fluid always present in this tissue in a small amount, and to diseases which specially affect such tissue, such as interstitial keratitis.


In medical terms, “interstices” describe the spaces between cells, tissues, or other bodily structures. For instance, the fluid found between body cells is known as interstitial fluid.


Positioned between two significant components, filling the gaps or spaces within a part, or related to the finest connective tissue of an organ.
