Lethargy

A condition of indifference or drowsiness.

State of sluggishness, apathy, unresponsiveness; found in certain diseases (e.g., sleeping sickness).

A feeling of dullness, sluggishness, weariness, and fatigue.

A degree of inactivity and unresponsiveness approaching or verging on the unconscious. The condition results from disease (such as sleeping sickness) or hypnosis.

Lethargy, or lassitude, means a loss of energy. It may have a physical or a psychological cause, and be the result of inadequate rest, environmental noise, boredom, insomnia or recent illness. Certain medicines can cause lethargy, the most common being beta blockers, antihistamine drugs and diuretics, and drugs of abuse may also be a cause. The common psychosocial problems producing lethargy are depression and anxiety.
