The group of compounds containing the iso-alloxazine ring structure, as in riboflavin (vitamin B2), and hence a general term for riboflavin derivatives.
Also known as lyochrome. One of a group of pale yellow, greenly fluorescing biological pigments widely distributed in small quantities in plant and animal tissues. Flavins are synthesized only by bacteria, yeast, and green plants; for this reason, animals are dependent on plant sources for riboflavin (vitamin B2), the most prevalent member of the group.
One of a group of natural water-soluble pigments occurring in milk, yeasts, bacteria, and some plants. All contain the flavin or isoalloxazine nucleus and are yellow. Flavin is present in riboflavin and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide dehydrogenase.
