Mineralised tissue beneath tooth enamel.
A hard substance which surrounds the pulp of teeth, beneath the enamel.
The major portion of a tooth; about 20% is organic matrix (collagen with some elastin), while 80% is hydroxyapatite containing calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, carbonate, and fluoride.
The calcified part of a tooth, between the enamel and the pulp. It is less hard than enamel and contains a network of minute channels in which are processes of the dentine-forming cells (odontoblasts). Dentine is very sensitive to touch, heat, and cold; when caries is being removed it is necessary to uncover clean healthy dentine: most people require an anesthetic for this to be done with comfort.
The portion of a tooth situated below the enamel that encloses the pulp or central core.
