Substitution

A defense mechanism, operating unconsciously, by which an unattainable or unacceptable goal, emotion, or object is replaced by one that is more attainable or acceptable.


The filling of a prescription by a pharmacist with a drug product therapeutically and chemically equivalent to, but not, the one prescribed. Many States have anti-substitution laws which prohibit the pharmacist from filling a prescription with any product other than the specific product of the manufacturer whose brand name is used on the prescription.


The act of replacing one thing with another.


Displacing an atom (or more than one) of an element in a compound by atoms of another elements of equal valence.


Substituting one thing for another.


In chemistry, it’s the process of swapping one or more elements or groups in a compound with other elements or groups.
