Sleep terror disorder

One of the parasomnias, characterized by panic and confusion when abruptly awakening from sleep. This usually begins with a scream and is accompanied by intense anxiety. The person is often confused and disoriented after awakening. No detailed dream is recalled, and there is amnesia for the episode. Sleep terrors typically occur during the first third of sleep. Also known as night terror (pavor nocturnus). Contrast with nightmare disorder.

Condition occurring in stage 4 sleep manifested by panic, confusion, and poor recall for the event.

A condition in which a person regularly wakes from sleep in a state of terror and confusion but remembers nothing about it in the morning.

Disorder of sleep, occurring mostly in children, in which episodes of abrupt awakening, with feelings of terror, panic, and anxiety, often with screaming and marked movements, occur without awareness of a frightening dream and with total amnesia of the event afterward; also called pavor nocturnus.
