Cyproheptadine

An antihistaminic and antiserotonergic agent used in the treatment of nightmares (including those related to posttraumatic stress disorder [PSTD]), sexual dysfunction secondary to antidepressant treatment, and psychogenic and nonpsychogenic anorexia as an appetite stimulant. Cyproheptadine has also been used in the management of moderate to severe cases of serotonin syndrome. While not specifically used as a sedative, cyproheptadine causes drowsiness. Now available only as generic but may still be known by the discontinued brand name periactin.

Antihistamine used to treat some allergic reactions. Adverse effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, rapid heart rate, and hypersensitivity reactions.

A potent antihistamine administered by mouth to treat allergies and itching skin conditions; it is also used to stimulate the appetite. Drowsiness is a common side-effect.
