Arousal

A physiological and psychological state of being awake, alert, or reactive to stimuli.

Arousal refers to the process of awakening an individual from a state of unconsciousness or partial consciousness. The term is also employed to describe any state of heightened awareness induced by factors such as sexual stimulation or fear. The reticular formation in the brainstem is responsible for regulating arousal.
