Apomorphine

A dopamine agonist medication (indicated for subcutaneous use only) used as adjunctive therapy in advanced parkinson’s Disease. Marketed under the brand name apokyn.


A substance that comes from morphine, used to make a person cough, sleep or be sick.


An emetic that produces its effect by direct action on the vomiting center in the brain. It is given by subcutaneous injection and acts within a few minutes. It is employed in the treatment of poisoning by noncorrosive substances that have been taken by mouth. In nonemetic (lower) dosage, apomorphine has sedative, hypnotic, and expectorant actions.


Apomorphine, a medication prescribed for Parkinson’s disease, may initially induce feelings of nausea and episodes of vomiting as common side effects during the early stages of treatment.
