The basic unit of a muscle’s cross-striated myofibril.

The unit of contraction of the myofibrils of a muscle cell, made of protein filaments arranged between two Z disks. Thick filaments are made primarily of myosin; thin filaments are made of actin, troponin, and tropomyosin. Desmin, myomesin, nebulin, and titin are stabilizing proteins.
