Vaginal itching

Vaginal irritation often comes with itching of the vulva. In many instances, this itching is a sign of vaginitis, which is an inflammation of the vagina. Vaginitis could be the result of an infection or an allergic reaction to substances found in hygiene products or spermicides. After menopause, vaginal itching becomes more common and may be triggered by decreased levels of estrogen. Treatment options vary depending on the underlying cause and could include antibiotics or hormone therapy.
