Torsion of testis

The twisting of the spermatic cord leads to intense pain and enlargement of the testicle. This pain emerges suddenly and may be accompanied by abdominal discomfort and nausea. The affected testicle becomes swollen and extremely sensitive, and the scrotum’s skin might show discoloration. Unless this torsion is promptly addressed within a few hours, lasting harm to the testicle can ensue. This condition is most prevalent during puberty and is more prone to occur if the testicle has unusual mobility within the scrotum.

The diagnosis is established through a physical examination. Surgical intervention is carried out to untwist the testicle and secure it within the scrotum using sutures to minimize the likelihood of recurrence. When the damage is irreversible, a procedure called orchidectomy, involving the removal of the testicle, is conducted. In both scenarios, the other testicle is also anchored within the scrotum to prevent torsion on that side. Swift treatment ensures a complete and full recovery.
