Retinal tear

The emergence of a division within the retina, which is the light-sensitive inner layer positioned at the rear of the eye, often stems from degeneration. A retinal tear is particularly prone to occur in individuals with significant myopia (nearsightedness), but it can also be triggered by a serious eye injury. Typically, retinal detachment ensues after the occurrence of a retinal tear.

When a retinal tear is identified prior to detachment, the gap can be sealed using methods like laser treatment or cryopexy, which involves applying extreme cold.
