Bacterial infection involving the tissues encasing the eye, known as the orbit. Typically, the infection originates from a neighboring sinus, although in certain instances, it can propagate through the bloodstream from an infection in the facial region. The afflicted eye becomes prominent, causing intense pain and redness. Additionally, there is pronounced swelling of the eyelids and conjunctiva, which is the membrane that lines the inner surface of the lids and covers the sclera (the white part of the eye).
Orbital cellulitis constitutes a grave condition. It can potentially harm the eye and carries a slight possibility of the infection advancing inward to affect the brain. The prescribed approach involves administering high doses of antibiotic medications.
