Hernia repair is a surgical procedure performed to address a hernia of the abdominal wall, especially if it causes pain or cannot be manually repositioned. In cases of a strangulated hernia, where the blood supply to a trapped part of the intestine is compromised, emergency surgery is necessary.
During the surgical procedure, the protruding intestine is gently pushed back into the abdomen, and the weakened muscle wall is reinforced. The surgery can be performed through an open approach or minimally invasive techniques, where an endoscope is used to repair the hernia from inside the abdominal cavity.
