Flynn-Aird syndrome is an uncommon inherited disorder marked by muscle and skin atrophy (wasting away), ataxia (lack of coordination and clumsiness), and dementia. This condition also presents additional symptoms such as tooth decay, joint stiffness, retinitis pigmentosa (degeneration of the retina’s rods and cones), peripheral neuropathy (a disorder of peripheral nerves), cataracts, and a gradual loss of hearing. The inheritance pattern of Flynn-Aird syndrome is autosomal dominant.
