Drug psychosis

Drug-induced psychosis is a mental state characterized by a disconnection from reality that can occur as a consequence of using certain substances. Such substances may include amphetamines, cocaine, LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), and cannabis. This mental condition can also be triggered by prescribed medications, especially when consumed in high doses, with corticosteroids being a notable example.

Drug-induced psychosis can lead to a range of symptoms such as unusual behaviors, hallucinations, delusions, and intense emotions, which can manifest as either extreme excitement or a stunned, unresponsive condition. The management of this condition generally involves discontinuation of the causative substance along with the administration of antipsychotic medications to alleviate the symptoms.
