De Quervain’s disease

De Quervain’s disease is an inflammatory condition that specifically targets one of the tendons responsible for the movement of the thumb. The tendon’s protective sheath becomes inflamed and thickened, hindering smooth movement and causing pain during thumb movements. This inflammation commonly arises from excessive use or overuse of the thumb.

The treatment approach for De Quervain’s disease involves a combination of rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and corticosteroid injections into the inflamed tendon sheath. These interventions are aimed at alleviating inflammation and providing relief. In severe cases, when conservative measures fail to produce the desired outcome, surgical intervention may be necessary to loosen the affected sheath.
