The branch of surgery dedicated to the treatment of the heart and blood vessels is known as cardiovascular surgery. It can be categorized into two primary areas.
One facet, also referred to as cardiothoracic surgery, encompasses procedures aimed at preventing or correcting heart-related impairments and addressing major blood vessels located within the chest cavity. Cardiothoracic surgery is employed, for instance, in the management of congenital heart disease or myocardial infarction (heart attack) complications.
The second area, known as vascular surgery, focuses on the medical interventions related to blood vessels in other parts of the body, including the legs.
