Barrett’s oesophagus

Barrett’s esophagus is a complication that can arise from long-term gastroesophageal reflux, wherein the cells lining the lower part of the esophagus are replaced by cells typically found in the stomach. Individuals with Barrett’s esophagus face an increased risk of developing esophageal cancer. To monitor this condition, regular endoscopic examinations, which involve the internal examination of the esophagus using a viewing instrument, are recommended.
