Androgen drugs

Androgen drugs, which include natural or synthetic male sex hormones, are utilized as medications, with testosterone being one of the most crucial among them. These drugs are employed in the treatment of male hypogonadism, a condition characterized by underactivity of the testes. Their purpose is to stimulate the development of male sexual characteristics in affected individuals.

Androgen drugs are sometimes employed in the treatment of specific forms of breast cancer. However, it is important to note that these drugs have also been extensively used by athletes and bodybuilders aiming to enhance muscle mass and strength. Such misuse of androgen drugs can pose significant risks to health and well-being.

Possible side effects include fluid retention, weight gain, increased blood cholesterol, and, rarely, liver damage. When taken by women, the drugs can lead to the development of male characteristics, such as facial hair.
