The primary purpose of the meter is to gauge the applied potential difference. While the voltage transfers from the autotransformer to the primary winding of the high voltage transformer, this meter amplifies the measurement by a factor of 1000, thus displaying the corresponding kilovoltage. It is connected in parallel with the autotransformer to enable accurate monitoring.
