Salamander

A browning device, also known as a salamander, is a tool used for browning or glazing food. It typically consists of an iron plate attached to a long handle, which is heated and then held over the food to create a caramelized or charred effect. In modern times, this process is often achieved using a broiler or blowtorch, and the traditional iron browning device is rarely used outside of antique shops.
