Thiamine pyrophosphate

An enzyme important in carbohydrate metabolism. It is the active form of thiamine. In people suspected of malnutrition, administering thiamine before the infusion of glucose containing solutions prevents brain damage (Wernicke-Korsakoffs encephalopathy).

Thiamine pyrophosphate, a coenzyme incorporating thiamine, holds critical significance in facilitating the conversion of glucose into energy within the body.
