Quantum theory

The proposition that energy can be emitted in discrete quantities (quanta) and that atomic particles can exist only in certain energy states. Quanta are measured by multiplying the frequency of the radiation, v, by Planck’s constant, h.

In the realm of light or other forms of radiation, the fundamental unit is the photon, embodying energy equivalent to the frequency of the radiation measured in cycles per second (cps).
