A progestational agent used to treat secondary amenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding related to hormone imbalance, and advanced endometrial and renal malignancies. It also is used with estrogens in hormone replacement therapy and administered intramuscularly as a long-term contraceptive (it is effective for up to 90 days).
