Generalized symmetrical deposits of fatty tissue (lipomas) on the upper back, shoulders, and neck.
The condition involves the formation of multiple, symmetrical fat deposits, similar to lipomas, beneath the skin of the head, neck, upper torso, and upper arms. Also known as multiple symmetrical lipomatosis or Lanois–Bensaude syndrome, it mainly affects adult men.
The exact cause of Madelung’s disease is uncertain, but it has been linked to prolonged, excessive alcohol consumption.
