Malar flush

A bright-colored flush over the malar area and cheekbones. It may be associated with any febrile disease.

A pronounced coloration on the cheekbones, tinged with blue due to lowered oxygen levels in the blood, is termed a malar flush. It’s often seen as an indicator of mitral stenosis, a constriction of one of the heart valves often resulting from rheumatic fever. However, not everyone with mitral stenosis exhibits a malar flush, and many with such facial coloration don’t suffer from heart ailments.
