Dukes classification

A system of classifying the extent of spread of adenocarcinoma of the colon or rectum.

This is a classification system used specifically for carcinomas, which are cancerous tumors originating from cells on the surface or lining membrane of an organ, found in the lower part of the gastrointestinal tract. This system is applied to categorize carcinomas occurring in the colon, which is the principal segment of the large intestine, or the rectum, a muscular channel linking the large intestine to the anus.
