Akee

The tropical tree Blighia sapida, of the soapberry family. Ingestion of its unripe fruit can cause severe hypoglycemia.


The akee fruit, which is commonly consumed in the Caribbean region as an accompaniment to salted fish, particularly in the breakfast dish “salt cod and akee,” can be substituted with the avocado fruit. The akee fruit is also known as the akee apple.
